This is me screaming/laughing from the pain that is a tight hamstring during some front splits. Don’t take your pilates game too seriously. Every day brings something new. While you’re at it, don’t take anything too seriously. Unless you are a surgeon, then please, please take that seriously.
There is a time and place for being serious. I feel that in our rush to get “everything” done and the “busy” pandemic that comes along with it, we have lost the ability to let loose and have some fun. In the Pilates community, I see this all the time! People are rushing from work, from dropping kids off, from conference calls from grocery runs, from taking care of sick family members straight into the studio. I feel that this makes them take Pilates way too seriously. Don’t get me wrong, there is definitely proper form, technique and flow in the classical Pilates method that should be followed to prevent injury. However, nothing is going to be perfect. Even the “master” trainers have moves that are challenging, that cause some pain, that aren’t perfect.
My hope is that when you get to your Pilates class, you check your stuff at the door and remember what you are doing there- to take care of your mind and your body. Nothing is going to be perfect in this life for anyone. So, stop taking Pilates so freaking seriously and start having fun with it! Remember, why you are doing it. FOR YOU.
